Holds the rank of Captain and currently retired from the Sri Lanka Navy, having done a 26 years of meritorious service to the nation. Has had extensive exposure out at sea, thus commanding ships and crafts of the Sri Lanka Navy. Has acquired a wide range of experience and knowledge in Maritime Warfare, Training and Development. Completed the basic naval training at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, United Kingdom, and has passed Staff College obtaining a Master’s Degree in Defence Studies from the University of Kelaniya, through the Army Command and Staff College. Active and courageous participation in Anti-Terrorism Operations on board Fast Attack Craft, and has been gallanted for voluntary bravery in the face of the enemy.


Worked in the capacity of Senior Staff Officer Operations hence acquiring a wide range of knowledge, with regard to Maritime Operations.

Taken part in many Symposiums and Workshops thus gaining an extensive knowledge on Naval and Maritime Affairs.

Worked in the capacity of Training Manager/Administrator thus obtaining skills in Training Design, Curriculum and Evaluation and has proven leadership and human management skills.

Worked in the capacity of Officer’s Training Officer and Training Captain at the Naval and Maritime Academy and had trained many Officer Cadets, Midshipmen and Junior Officers.

Has had extensive exposure in analytical thinking and decision making thus mastered the art and science of Military Decision Making Process.

Possesses good instructional and communication skills, and a person who enjoys interacting with people from varied cultures and backgrounds and celebrates the differences in others.


Successfully completed the International Midshipmen’s Course at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, United Kingdom, obtaining a First Class Pass. (1992 – 1993)

Had the privilege of being granted a scholarship to complete my Midshipman training in the United Kingdom as I was awarded the “The Sword of Honour” for the Best Midshipman for achieving the Highest Aggregate for Overall and Professional subjects at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. (1990 – 1992)

Medals and Decorations:

Was gallanted for voluntary bravery in the face of the enemy and was awarded Rana Wickrema Padakkama and Rana Sura Padakkama by HE the President of Sri Lanka, along with Uttama Seva Padakkama for meritorious service as well as other distinguished operations and service medals.

Presentations and Publications:

‘Formulating a Maritime Strategy for Sri Lanka’ at the General Sir John Kotalawela Defence University, Annual Symposium: “Sharing Knowledge for Sustainable Peace” (Aug 2010). This research paper was written by me as a fulfilment of the Master’s in Defence Studies, at the University of Kelaniya in affiliation with the Army Command and Staff College. This study was subsequently published in the international journal IONSPHERE December 2014 (under the editorship of the Royal Australian Navy).
