A life without a vision, is like a ship without a rudder

For a Ship’s Captain in the midst of a long and uncertain voyage, the central question he must answer is not the past, but the present and less importantly the future. Present Operational issues such as: Is the ship guided and operated properly? Are the crew and ship performing well? Future Strategic issues such as: Is the destination chosen appropriate? Is the course correct? (Strategic Direction) What winds and currents are likely to be encountered? Is the crew prepared for the emergencies that are most likely to occur? Of course the Past experience / lessons learnt are useful in order, not to make the same mistakes. Like Ship’s Captains, Leaders need information about how they are doing compared to both their own (internal) and their competitors (external). A life without a vision, is like a ship without a rudder.
